The Perfect Waldorf Luxury Mother's Day - on points

So every year the Waldorf Astoria in Monarch Beach at Dana Point, CA nearby us does a fancy brunch on their seaside bluff overlooking a private beach club. I screwed up last year and booked the wrong brunch but this year I had planned it better.

American express to the rescue

The Amex Hilton Aspire card offers a free annual night at any marriott almost ANYWHERE which includes any Waldorf Astoria. In addition, the card also offers a $200 resort credit every 6 months and top tier daimond status at any Hilton. Some AMEX cards also offer $50 credits at hiltons every quarter that you can order hilton gift cards to redreem the credit. I had so many gift cards they were burning a hole in my pocket that I've been wanting to use so this was the perfect occasion. The room rate for mother's day was ~$1000 and the brunch was $210/adult and $85/kid + gratuities. This came to around ~$700 which I had covered in resort credits from diamond status, credit card resort credit and hilton gift cards. It was a perfect mother's day staycation worth $1700 for free.
